A plain description of primary issuance versus secondary trading, written so it does not pretend Belvedere is a broker, charting app, or live-quote site.
A stock market matches buyers and sellers of existing shares in public companies. Issuers raise capital in primary offerings; most “stock trading” is secondary-market transfer of shares already outstanding. Prices form where orders meet. Belvedere analyzes the companies, not the order book.
How does investing in the stock market work?
You obtain an interest in a company through a brokerage or similar account. Your economic outcome depends on what you paid, what the business earns and distributes over time, and what a later buyer will pay. That is not the same as day-trading tactics.

Primary versus secondary
When a company sells new shares, cash goes to the issuer (minus underwriting costs). When you buy shares from another holder, cash goes to that holder. Most everyday “stock trading” is the second case. Company filings still matter because they describe the business whose shares are exchanging.
Orders, not research notes, set the print
A last sale is an executed order. A 10-Q is a periodic report. Mixing them is how people treat a research page as a quote screen. Belvedere keeps them separate: see stock information.

What is the meaning of the stock market?
It is a venue (or set of venues) for exchanging claims on companies. It is not a scoreboard of research quality, and it is not Belvedere’s product.
